IBF BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION ROMAN READIES FOR 1ST DEFENSE AT LOS ANGELES MEDIA WORKOUT

January 27, 2020

International Boxing Federation bantamweight champion Daniel Roman held a media workout spearheaded by Thompson Boxing Promotions at the City of Angels boxing gym in downtown Los Angeles in preparation of his first title defense against Murodjon Akhmadaliev on January 30, 2020 in Miami, Florida.

Roman (27-2-1, 10KO) hails from Inglewood, California and won the IBF title with a victory of TJ Doheny in his hometown at the Fabulous Forum in April 2019 in what was one of boxing best fights of that year.  The ‘Fight of The Year’ candidate saw both Roman and Doheny display spirited performances.  Roman won the title via unanimous decision, then became sidelined due to injury for the rest of the year.  “I can’t think of any fights the Danny Roman has been in that weren’t action packed,” said Thompson Boxing matchmaker Alex Camponovo. “He hasn’t lost many rounds in his career and I expect him to dominate in this fight.”

The 29 year old pugilist who dons the moniker of ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ is in prime shape alongside the efficient training guidance of trainer-manager Eddie Gonzalez and is looking forward to defending the IBF title against Akhmadaliev to start off his 2020 campaign.  “Danny is a true professional, he’s discipline, he sacrifices, he works hard,” stated trainer and manager Gonzalez. “If I ask him to do something he goes beyond. I’m very confident his going to beat Murodjon Akhmadaliev.”

“I think Roman is one of the best fighters in boxing period,” said Ken Thompson, CEO of Thompson Boxing Promotions at the Los Angeles workout. “He’s fought all over the world and won world titles. He’s the best fighter we’ve ever had at Thompson Boxing. I’m expecting him to have a spectacular performance.”

Roman makes his first defense of the International Boxing Federation bantamweight title live on DAZN on Super Bowl LIV weekend in Miami, Florida.

“It’s an honor to be the IBF champion of the world.  I’m happy to be the title holder and will continue fighting for this title with pride… It’s exciting.  We aren’t planning to let this belt go.  I’m proud to be a part of the IBF family.”
